He’s in his sixties, but Marc Delienne describes himself as a young winemaker. With his youthful energy and relative newbie status in Beaujolais, it’s clear that being young is a matter of attitude. Following a career developing business software, Delienne committed himself to wine, working for four years with Eloi Dürrbach at Domaine Trévallon and another two with Alain Graillot at Graillot’s Domaine de Fa in Saint-Amour. After another year and a half searching for the right site, Delienne bought some parcels in Fleurie, two small ones on the hill of Fleurie itself, and a larger vineyard on the plain below. The vines are all on granite terroir, with a silt component in the flatter site. Vine age is 45-90 years. All work in the vines is organic, fermentations are all spontaneous, and sulfur is used only at bottling.
