Though a relative newcomer on the scene, Peciña is one of the great standard-bearers for traditional Rioja. Hermanos Peciña was founded in 1992 by La Rioja Alta’s long-time vineyard manager, Pedro Peciña, and he has run it full time since 2002, committing himself to producing the kind of wines that only a handful of Rioja bodegas can boast of today. For Peciña, everything begins in the vineyard, of course, and he uses no chemical fertilizers and harvests by hand across the entire 50 hectares. With such a large source for the wines, very careful selections are made every year for each cuvée, guaranteeing that the best fruit will go into the best wines. In the cellar, Peciña is very traditional, with extended aging being the rule, always in neutral barrels.
