The young Peter Radovič tends 7 hectares of vines on his family estate in the Carso district of Friuli, near Trieste and close to the Slovenian border. The vineyards are steeply sloped and set several hundred feet above the Adriatic on karst terroir, porous, fractured limestone rife with fissures and faults. The vines are all managed organically and the winemaking is very natural, with a minimalist approach that favors the expression of the region’s unique terroir. In fact, not only do the vines grow on limestone, the wines are actually fermented in large limestone vats.
