Following years working as a chef at Michelin-starred restaurants in California, Alex Pitt swapped the back of the house in hospitality for the back of the house in a winery, eventually becoming the assistant winemaker at Scholium Project. In 2012, Alex founded his own winery, Maître de Chai. His partner at the winery, Marty Winters, followed a similar path, first as a chef, then making wine at Stuhlmuller and Kongsgaard. Maîte de Chai focuses on single-vineyard sites and minimal intervention winemaking that allows the wine to express those terroirs,
