Domaine du Gour de Chaulé was founded in 1900 by Eugène Bonfils. Located in the heart of the village of Gigondas, the estate has passed since down through three generations of women winemakers, with Stéphanie Fumoso being the current proprietor. Encompassing just over 10 hectares of vines, the domaine’s oldest vines date to that original 1900 planting, with the average age being around 60 years. Grenache makes up 85% of the vineyard, with the balance being Syrah and Mourvèdre, along with a very small parcel of Cinsault which is use for the domaine’s rosé. Yields are low at 28-32 hectoliters per hectare. Although the cellar boasts modern equipment, all of the winemaking is essentially traditional, with manual harvests, no destemming, no new oak, and only large neutral foudres for aging.
