Located in the southwest of Beaujolais, Domaine des Canailles is a small affair, with just 8 hectares of vines set on classic Beaujolais granite terroir. Farmed organically since 2005 and biodynamically since 2019 when Simon Pérot and Etienne Ubaud took over, the domaine is minimalist in every respect. All the farming and harvesting is by hand, fermentations are spontaneous, very low doses of SO2 are used, and no filtration takes place. Prior to taking over Canailles, Simon was the in charge of Lycée Bel Air’s instructional viticulture property in Beaujolais, and Etienne had just finished working for Claire Naudin at Domaine Naudin-Ferrand in Burgundy.
