Zarate

Categories: ,

Established in the early 18th Century, Bodegas Zarate is one of the oldest estates in Rías Baixas. The Zarate vineyards encompass 10 hectares spread across 11 sites, all planted to the sandy-granitic terroir of the Val do Salnés district. Though the Atlantic climate makes organic viticulture difficult, winemaker Eulogio Pomares nonetheless manages it successfully, utilizing both organic and biodynamic methods. The vines’ median age is 35 years, but there are extreme outliers at the estate, such as the pre-phylloxera plantings in El Palomar, which date to 1850. The terroir, the old vines, and the traditional methods in the vineyards and winery all come together in the bottle. The wines are pure, deep, and extraordinarily long-lived.
