Located closer to the Valle d’Aosta than to the better-known hubs of Piemontese wine, Barolo and Barbaresco, Carema represents the height of mountain Nebbiolo, and Ferrando, in turn, represents the height of Carema. Set in a broad amphitheatre below Mont Blanc, Ferrando’s Nebbiolo vineyards are grown on pergola, providing the maximum sun exposure. The terroir here is dominated by slate, which lends the wine austerity in its youth and elegance as it matures. Energetic and lithe, with supreme ageability, Ferrando’s Carema are among the most sought-after from the Alto Piemonte.
