From the husband and wife team of Martin and Marlies Abraham, Weingut Abraham was founded in 2011, though the vineyards have been in Martin’s family since 1901. Located in Appiano, the estate focuses on terroir and traditional methods, many of which had been abandoned in the region during the ‘modernizing’ decades of the 80s and 90s. The vines all grow at 450 meters above sea level or higher, mostly pergola-trained, which makes hand-picking a necessity. In the winery the Abrahams are minimalists, allowing the terroir to come through in the finished wines, rather than intervening to impose a desired style. In the end, the wines are epistles from Appiano, with sometimes stunning clarity, precision, and keen minerality.
