Terroir Tuesday: The Jura via Neal Rosenthal Imports

Terroir Tuesday: The Jura via Neal Rosenthal ImportsSeptember 12, 2017, 5:00pmArcanaThis week's Terroir Tuesday kicks off a 3-part series in which we travel from the Jura to Burgundy and remain in a Burgundy state-of-mind until the week of Boulder Burgundy Festival 2017. We kick things off featuring three Jura producers from legendary importer Neal Rosenthal, including the (in?)famous Jacques Puffeney. All of the producers featured this Tuesday champion the 'traditional' Jura style: oxidative whites from Savignin & Chardonnay and earth-driven reds from Poulsard, Trousseau & Pinot Noir.

The following week's Terroir Tuesday will demonstrate the direction much of the Jura is headed: towards non-oxidative wines with a focus on fruit and elegance. This 'new' direction is best exemplified by the wines of Domaine du Pélican, a Jura domaine founded by Guillame d'Angerville of Domaine Marquis d'Angerville from the village of Volnay. It also exemplifies the current state of economic affairs in Burgundy: as land prices continue to rise and yields continue to be pummeled by mother nature in the Cote d'Or, more and more producers are looking to the Jura along with the Cote Chalonnaise & Macon to expand their holdings and production. When Jacques Puffeney announced his retirement in 2014, Domaine du Pelican quickly signed a multi-year lease of his vineyards. We end the series by presenting the wines of Domaine d'Angerville on Tuesday, September 27th.

Terroir Tuesday is an evening dedicated to bringing together industry friends and guests to drink and enjoy the wines of our favorite producers in a relaxed setting, devoid of pretense. We feature producers and/or regions that we are excited about and pour the wines by the glass, nearly at wholesale pricing. The wines are available while supplies last from 5-10pm. We offer our Arcana Burger every Terroir Tuesday because nothing makes wine more approachable than enjoying it alongside delicious cheeseburgers and fries.
